Avoid Hidden Charges: How to Get a Free Hulu Trial in 2023

It’s always hard to say no to a free trial because why not, it’s free! But just keep in mind that charges will come after the trial. A Hulu Free Trial is great to take advantage of to binge watch How I met Your Father or just watch the ESPN live sports! However, often times, the hefty price of $14.99/month for a Hulu subscription, doesn’t justify you to keep the free trial. Say you’ve finished your favorite TV series on Hulu, don’t forget the last step—cancel the subscription to avoid further costs! It’s easy. We have all the ways of unsubscribing for you right here. In this article, we share how to get the most out of your Hulu free trial without getting charged.
In this guide, we will share:
  1. How to sign up for a Hulu free trial?
  2. What can I get with a Hulu free trial?

1. How to sign up for a Hulu free trial?

The process of signing up for a free trial is pretty straightforward:
  1. Go to www.hulu.com
  2. Click on the white button on their homepage that says Start Your Free Trial
  3. Choose a plan that you want—note that they don’t offer a free trial for Hulu+ Live TV, but you can choose from Hulu (No Ads) and Hulu. We would suggest you to go for the No Ads plan, since the first month is free for both, why not go for the better one.
  4. Then you’ll need to fill in some personal details and payment info
And that’s all you need to do! After that you’ll be able to enjoy your Hulu free trial for a month!

2. What I can get with a free trial to Hulu

With a free trial on Hulu, you can access their streaming service and watch a wide variety of TV shows, movies, and other content. The exact offerings available during the free trial may depend on your location and the current availability of content, but generally, you can expect to have access to the following:
  1. A selection of popular TV shows from networks such as ABC, NBC, FOX, and more.
  2. A range of movies from various genres, including comedy, drama, action, and more.
  3. Original programming produced by Hulu, including award-winning series such as "The Handmaid's Tale," "Castle Rock," and "Ramy."

3. How to cancel your free trial before getting charged?

Here are several ways how you can cancel your free trial before YouTube charges your bank account. It is important to note that some ways could be riskier and more time-consuming. We explain the different ways to ensure you enjoy the trial without being charged.
Canceling your trial is just a few easy steps, but remembering to cancel before the trial ends is the difficult part. YouTube makes it difficult to time your free trial to maximize the value of the trial. If you cancel in the middle of your free trial, you'll lose access to Hulu immediately upon cancellation. Here are the steps to follow to cancel:

1. Cancel Hulu on the Web [Medium, High]

Canceling on Hulu’s website is straight-forward. The hard part is to remember to do it on time before your next auto-payment hits your bank account. Follow these steps to cancel and see below some tips to minimize forgetting to cancel:
  1. Go to hulu.com/account
  2. Scroll down to the Cancel Your Subscription tile
  3. Click Cancel
  4. Hulu will offer a Hail Mary save to see if you want to pause your subscription instead. If you truly want to cancel, click Continue to cancel
  5. Click Cancel one last time
Note: If you cancel early, you will still have access to your subscription until your next billing date.
Time Intensity: Medium Riskiness Rating: High

2. Cancel Hulu on iOS Devices [Medium, High]

Unfortunately, Hulu does not support canceling on iOS devices. You will need to do it through the website www.hulu.com . However, if you bought Hulu through your Apple ID, you can cancel on your phone or iTunes accounts. Follow these instructions:

via iOS Device:

  1. Set reminder(s) in your calendar to cancel Hulu at least a day before your next auto-pay date occurs (we recommend having at least two reminders)
  2. Click Settings app
  3. Click on your Apple ID Profile (your name at the top of your screen)
  4. Click Subscriptions
  5. Click Hulu (the subscription you want to cancel)
  6. Click Cancel Subscription or Cancel Free Trial (in red) on the service’s information page
  7. Click Confirm to cancel your subscription

via iTunes:

  1. Set reminder(s) in your calendar to cancel Hulu at least a day before your next auto-pay date occurs (We recommend having at least two reminders)
  2. Click on the iTunes app on your Desktop
  3. Select Account in the menu bar
  4. Select View My Account (log into your Apple ID account, if prompted)
  5. Scroll to the Settings section
  6. Select Manage next to the Subscriptions line
  7. Select Edit next to Hulu
  8. Select Cancel Subscription
Time Intensity: Medium Riskiness Rating: High

3. Cancel Hulu on Android Devices [Medium, High]

Follow these steps to cancel using any of your Android devices:
  1. Set reminder(s) in your calendar to cancel Hulu at least a day before your next auto-pay date occurs (We recommend having at least two reminders)
  2. When it’s time, click on your Hulu App
  3. Tap Account
  4. Tap Account (on the left menu bar)
  5. Enter your password
  6. Tap Cancel in the Cancel Your Subscription tile
  7. Tap Cancel Your Subscription
You won’t receive a notification when you cancel so ensure that your account says “Canceled.” Similar to the website, you will need to rely on yourself to cancel in time. Many people forget to cancel, so do what you have to do whether it’s creating calendar invites

4. Cancel Using Virtual Card Providers [High, Low]

There is a new way to get around the cancellation headache that ensures you won’t get charged, but is just as, if not more, timely than the normal options. The only silver lining about this alternative is that you don’t need to use a credit card to try a Hulu free trial.
Follow these steps to cancel using a virtual card provider:
  1. Go to one of the virtual card providers (e.g., DoNotPay, Privacy, X1)
  2. Go through their onboarding process to sign up for a card
  3. Create a card by adding Personal Info and Funding Source
  4. Add funding limit of $2 (this is to ensure authorization charge goes through)
  5. Sign-up for Hulu and ensure payment goes through (these prepaid cards often get rejected)
  6. Set reminder(s) in your calendar when your Hulu free trial is about to expire and evaluate if you want to keep or cancel your subscription
  7. Enjoy the subscription for the month
  8. When your reminder goes off, go back to virtual card site:
    • To Cancel: Lower funding limit from $2 to $0
    • To Keep: Look up the plan you want and increase funding limit to the monthly amount OR switch to your personal credit or debit card
Time Intensity: High Riskiness Rating: Low
